I made myself
Pumpkin French Toast Casserole for breakfast. Not bad; I should have cubed the bread last night and let it dry a bit.
I made
Cranberry Upside-Down Cake. This has not yet been tasted, but looks yummy. One 12-ounce bag of cranberries is just over three cups, so I doubled it; I'm going to take one to my folks tonight, and one to "second Thanksgiving" with the boys in Jersey Saturday.
Also for tonight, I made traditional
Green Bean Casserole using Alton Brown's recipe. I've never managed to make his onions come out right, so I still buy the Durkee French Fried Onions (which are in a plastic canister this year), but the fresh mushroom bechamel is SOOOO much better than canned cream of mushroom soup (ick).
Lastly, I made
Sweet Potatoes au Gratin. My sister wanted a sweet potato dish, and I really dislike the traditional sweet-potato-and-pineapple-with-marshmal
low thing. I had asked the cheesemonger how much Gruyére I needed to make 2 cups shredded - he said a pound. Well, it was almost three cups, so I increased the ingredients by half again, and have one for tonight and one for Saturday as well.
Everyone enjoy your Thanksgiving. Remember, half your plate should be green veggies, and the other half should be divided between turkey and starches.
